A novel about a young girl's struggle for survival in an alternate history of England in the year 1799. Charlotte, the former widow of King George the 3rd, is the queen of England and has remarried. Beatrix Langridge is just an unimportant servant girl. At least until she overhears a secret conversation between two powerful members of high society in Windsor Castle. Suddenly everything she thought she knew about her country is in question. Are the whispers that the queen is only a puppet true? Or does this mystery run deeper than Beatrix dares to believe?
Beatrix's biggest struggle turns from trusting God in her employer's latest invention to trusting God not to allow her to starve on the streets. How far will these hidden enemies go to ensure Beatrix's silence? Is anywhere safe? Who can she trust? Will her faith endure? (from Goodreads)
Review:
~I'd like to thank the author for sending me a free copy in exchange for my honest review!~
A historical fiction... with a twist? Give it here!
The Orphan's Clue was a great historical mystery, with a fun, adventure-loving protagonist, and sly, mysterious villains. There were also those characters who were good, but also bad, then good, then bad again. And if you know me, you know I always LOVE it when a story has them! It just adds so much more depth to the story XD
This book was very well written, the plot progressed very nicely, and there were lots of surprises along the way.
Definitely recommended!
Things I Loved:
-It was a fun historical mystery
--The characters, both the MCs and villains
-Great plot
-The ending (I mean who doesn't love a good cliffhanger?)
Things I Didn't Love:
-I don't think there was anything!
In Conclusion:
This was a great book, with wonderful writing, plot, and characters. If you're looking for a historical mystery, this one's for you!
